About Us

With total dedication and love for this wonderful little Welsh breed, Chalan Terriers have now been breeding and showing the Sealyham for over twenty years, during which time we have both bred and exhibited numerous Australian and New Zealand Champions including Multiple Best in Group and Best In Show Awards.

Starting in Australia in the 1970's with Afghan Hounds and Whippets, career changes saw us move from Australia to New Zealand in the late 1980's. In 1993 we imported our first two Sealyham's into New Zealand - this was the start of Chalan Terriers.

In 2002 we moved back to Australia bringing most of our beloved Sealyham's to allow us to continue our passion for showing and breeding this rare Welsh breed. Over the following decade we also welcomed our first Sealyham Terrier import from Denmark, who was to go on and become the first of our multiple Best In Group and Best In Show winning Grand Champions.

During this time we exported a Sealyham back to their birthplace of Wales, attended the Centenary Show at Sealyham House Estate in Haverfordwest, Wales and welcomed our first Cesky Terriers - another wonderful and relatively rare terrier breed. Originating in Czechoslovakia (the result of a cross between the Sealyham and Scottish terriers) they have only been recognised by the FCI since 1963.

As part of our ongoing dedication to these breeds we have recently imported new bloodlines which will be extremely beneficial to these breeds and thank those breeders for allowing us to own and show their lovely dogs.

Chalan Terriers are also the first Sealyham Terrier kennel to become DNA Certified in Australia, which complies with the requirements of the major Kennel Clubs around the world .

Jane has also gained her Australian National Kennel Club Judges License allowing her to judge the Sealyham Terrier, the Cesky Terrier and the Norwich Terrier at Championship Show level - able to award challenge certificates (CC Certificates) for these breeds. Jane is also able to judge the balance of the Terrier Group at Open Show level.
